I hate sad goodbyes! But I love this story. LAST never seemed to be a fitting end for our boys ... driving off into the sunset with full knowledge that war was coming.
Your take ... that they never stopped loving each other, worrying about each other, completing each other ... is much more satisfying. Even if parted, they're together. I can just imagine them finding ways to meet one another during the war.
Of course, Mrs. Watson must die. ;)
