This is marvelous! I've often wondered what happened to Holmes and Watson during the War. (And my musings match up pretty well with what you imply here: that Holmes continued his work as a spy, and Watson used his physician skills for the wounded soldiers sent home, and they both saw horrible things.)

I'm looking forward to parts 3-5.
