That's interesting. One of my beta's first comments is that this almost seemed like a movie.
I do understand what you're saying about the hospital scenes. There were times when I was writing it I was like, "Oh dear lord, another hospital scene." It was, in some ways, a formatting choice. I wanted to differentiate between the present and the past, so I alternated each scene -- hospital, memory, hospital, memory, etc. I thought it would be easier to follow the timelines by remaining consistent. I guess I could have italicized the scenes from the past to also differentiate them, but that always irks me in fics (and I just skim over the italicized sections without really reading them).
