Fic: Respite
Aug. 1st, 2010 04:47 amTitle: Respite
Author: Daylyn
Fandom: Criminal Minds
Rating: NC- 17 (FRAO)…
Pairing: Hotch/Reid
Word Count: ~ 3,350
Warnings: Pure smut. PWP. A little bit of angst and melancholia but, really, just smut.
Disclaimer: All characters belong to their copyright holders. No profit is intended.
Summary: During the midst of a difficult case, Aaron and Spencer take a break at the hotel.
Author’s Note: Part of my Five Dinners universe, although this fic can stand alone. (All “Five Dinners” stories can be found here). General SPOILERS through Season 5.
Although I don’t think that writing smut is my strong point, I nonetheless had this idea for a hotel story. So I thought, ‘Hey, I’ll write smut anyway.’ Yet even my smut has a wee bit of angst. *sigh* But, really, it’s basically just smut. Of course, I did just stay up to 4:30 in the morning to finish this. Um... yeah... I think I should go to bed now.

Spencer Reid paced about in his hotel room, occasionally glancing at the photos of the latest victim. The team had been in this smallish-sized town in the middle of nowhere out West for close to a week, in search of a serial killer who tortured his victims horribly before finally murdering them. The team told themselves that they had made some progress, but with the discovery of a new body today Spencer privately felt that they were further away from finding the killer than ever.
Spencer shuddered. He was used to seeing death in all its myriad forms, but there was something about the victim that had been found this afternoon that had gotten under his skin. He and Rossi had gone to the crime scene in an industrial area to examine where Victim Number 5 had been literally dumped. She was young, early twenties maybe. Pretty. But it was the bruising that indicated how she had been tied down, how she couldn’t escape her torment, which had made Spencer shiver.
Sometimes he hated his job.
So he paced his hotel room, looking at times at the crime scene photos because Victim Number Five deserved to be remembered. But he felt he was slowly going stir crazy. Part of it, he knew, the lack of progress on the case. Part of it, he knew, was his empathizing with the victim and the feeling of being tied down, unable to escape one’s fate. And part of it, he knew, was the length of time the case was taking and the fact… the fact that he missed Hotch.
Well, actually it was Aaron he missed. Hotch he saw everyday as his supervisor.

Title: Five Six Times that a Team Member (and Jack) Saw Aaron and Spencer Kiss, and One of Many, Many Times No One Did
Author: Daylyn

Rating: R (FRM)
Pairing: Hotch/Reid
Word Count: ~ 9,150

My first “five times plus one” story, although I miscalculated somehow and added a scenario for Jack, so technically it’s a “six times plus one” story (yeah, I must have been tired when I outlined the fic and counting to five was somehow beyond me).

JJ
JJ wasn’t sure what had woken her from where she lay curled up on the couch on the jet. She blinked blearily and then heard a faint rustle. She saw that Reid was moving to sit across from Hotch near the back of the plane.
“Hi,” Reid said quietly.
JJ couldn’t see Hotch’s face, but she could see his clenched fist on the table in front of him.
“What do you want, Reid?” Hotch said, his voice tight.
JJ suppressed a sigh. It had been a rough case. It was always rough when it involved children, and this had been particularly hard. The UnSub had been abducting kids from day care centers, specifically targeting children of single parents. He then killed them. He said, when the BAU team finally caught him, that he was ‘saving them’ from the horror and disappointment of growing up alone with parents who was too busy to care for them.
Hotch had been on edge since that custodial interview.
“Do you want to talk about it,” Reid murmured to Hotch. “The rest of the team is asleep.”
JJ quickly closed her eyes and kept her breathing steady.

Fic: Connections to the Past
May. 24th, 2010 12:45 amTitle: Connections to the Past
Author: Daylyn
Fandom: Criminal Minds
Rating: PG-13 (FRT)
Pairing: Hotch/Reid
Word Count: ~ 2,500
Disclaimer: All characters belong to their copyright holders. No profit is intended.
Summary: On the flight back from Idaho, Hotch realizes that he has to talk to Reid about the similarities between this recent case and Reid’s torment at the hands of Tobias Hankel.
Author’s Note: SPOILERS for Episode 5.22, “The Internet is Forever” specifically and Season 5 generally (including events from Episode 5.09, “100”). Also SPOILERS for Episode 2.15, “Revelations”.
This takes place in my Five Dinners universe, specifically in the timeline between dinner #4 and dinner #5. (All “Five Dinners” stories can be found here).
My only real disappointment with Episode 5.22, “The Internet is Forever” was that it really didn’t make the connection between the current case and what happened to Reid when he was kidnapped. This is an attempt to rectify that.
Connections to the Past
By Daylyn
Aaron sat at the front of the plane as they flew back from Idaho, ostensibly writing his report. However, he was actually watching the team out of the corner of his eye and their delayed reactions to the events of the case. Aaron noticed that everyone’s attention (except Rossi’s) was on Reid, whereas Reid was sitting in the back of the plane as far from everyone else as possible. His posture was extremely defensive; he sat with the table down, book in front of his face, and messenger bag clutch tightly to his lap. The few times anyone had tried to approach him, he stood abruptly and hurried to the lavatory or kitchen area. It was quite apparent that Reid did not want to talk. However, that did not stop the rest of the team from glancing worriedly at him and from nervously refusing to interact with each other.
Aaron cast a surreptitious glance at Reid. Reid just clasped his bag closer.
Rossi came and sat across from Aaron. Rossi indicated the team with a quick thrust of his chin. Aaron could almost feel the nervous energy radiating off the others, like hungry animals caged in a zoo. Aaron thought that they would actually be pacing if they weren’t on the jet (and would have incurred everyone’s wrath, Aaron’s included).
Rossi cleared his throat and Aaron’s attention went back to him.
“You want to tell me what’s going on?” Rossi asked. “Everyone is kind of acting like they have pants full of fire ants.”

Fic: Baggage

Author: Daylyn
Fandom: Criminal Minds
Rating: PG-13 (FRT)
Pairing: Hotch/Reid
Word Count: ~ 2,150

Summary: As their relationship deepens, Spencer and Aaron begin to come to terms with issues from their pasts.

This is an odd piece of melancholia that grabbed hold of me and said, “Write me. Now!” So I did.
Baggage
By Daylyn
Spencer pulled into the driveway of the house that he was now sharing with Aaron (and Jack, Spencer added in his thoughts). He took a deep breath, his hands clutching the steering wheel. It was late. Well, not ‘late’ as in the time they usually got to bed while working on a case, not even ‘late’ as in the time that Spencer usually stopped reading and doing research, but ‘late’ as in the sense it was 11:00pm and he hadn’t come home this late to Aaron (and Jack) since he had moved in with them about a month ago.
Spencer was returning from an NA meeting and a long talk with his sponsor. It was funny; Spencer knew that he was happy – thrilled even – with his relationship with Aaron. But at the moment it all seemed completely overwhelming. Maybe it was because they were now living together (and were thus more ‘committed’). Maybe it was because he was now sharing a home with a five-year-old boy (and they were all still trying to define their roles in those interactions; Spencer had vowed he would never have children and now he was thrust into a parental type position). Maybe it was because they had responsibilities for and toward each other now. Spencer didn’t know. All he knew was that he had been craving dilaudid – seriously craving dilaudid – like he hadn’t in years. Hence the NA meeting and the long talk with his sponsor.
“You’re happy right now, aren’t you?” John had asked him as they shared a cup of coffee, tucked in the dark corner of a café, Spencer gripping his coffee cup. Spencer had nodded.
“And you’re terrified, aren’t you?” John continued.

Author: Daylyn
Fandom: Criminal Minds
Rating: PG (FRT)

Word Count: ~ 550
Warnings: Fluff?

Summary: In the Criminal Minds novel, Killer Profile by Max Allan Collins, there’s a scene where Prentiss sends Reid to wake up a sleeping Hotch and Hotch enters the conference room a moment later looking rather mussed. This is what happened during that missing moment in-between.
Author’s Note: This is for
bowie28, who so wonderfully provided info about the little Hotch/Reid moments in the Criminal Minds novels, and for
travelinthedark who surmised that there was a bit of Hotch/Reid loving when Reid was sent to wake Hotch up.

The Moment In-Between

Turning to the room [Prentiss] asked, “Anybody know where Hotch went?”
With a vague gesture, Reid said, “He’s in one of the back offices, trying to catch an hour’s sleep.”
“Wake him,” Prentiss said.
Shaking his head, Reid said, “He doesn’t want to be disturbed. He said—”
“Whatever he said, he’s going to want to hear this. Wake him.”
Her tone carried enough weight to propel Reid out of his chair and out of the conference room. [Killer Profile by Max Allan Collins, pp. 171-172]

Aaron pulled Spencer in closer to his chest as they lay sprawled on his bed, and gently kissed the top of Spencer’s head. Spencer shifted and looked up at him; they kissed lazily, the slow slide of tongues eliciting soft moans. Spencer pulled away with a soft sigh and put his head back on Aaron’s chest. Aaron kissed the top of his head again.
Aaron sighed in contentment, his body sated and loose. He stroked his hand along Spencer’s sweaty back.
He noticed, however, that Spencer was tenser than he should be after such intense love-making. “What’s wrong?” Aaron asked gently.
“Why do you think something is wrong?” Spencer replied, a little too quickly.
“Because your body feels tense. And because you’re too defensive when responding to the question.”
“Damn profilers,” Spencer muttered.
Aaron waited. He knew that Spencer would eventually tell him when something was bothering him, but he learned, the hard way, that pushing Spencer when he wasn’t ready to talk would exacerbate the situation.
Spencer eventually sighed. “We have to tell them, don’t we?”

Five Dinners and a Breakfast

Dinner # 1
The first dinner took Spencer by surprise.
It had all started when Spencer found himself marching to Hotch’s office. Well, really, he awkwardly moved on crutches to Hotch’s office, but he did it with purpose, so it was sort of like marching.
They had just concluded the case concerning the brutal, senseless, random beatings in DC. Spencer had spoken to Morgan, briefly, after it had all gone down. Morgan had sounded pissed. Really pissed. He couldn’t understand why Hotch (and by extension Rossi and Prentiss) had just left the scene. Spencer had thought he understood. There was no reason for them (the FBI, the BAU, Hotch) to be there anymore. The outcome was already inevitable, the suspects committing suicide by cop.
Morgan refused to see the reasonableness of that explanation. “We had a duty to see it through,” he had argued over the phone. “I tell you, man. Hotch is completely off his game right now. I have no idea what the hell he’s thinking.”
Spencer had declined to state that he felt Morgan had gotten too emotionally involved with the case (and with one of the victim’s sister, Tamara Barnes). He knew that such an observation would be less than welcome, especially after Morgan told him that he was stopping by her house to, “Let her know what happened.”
Then Morgan had added. “I know I gave you a ride this morning because of your messed up leg. Do you want to wait for me to get a ride home or…”
Spencer thought that he would be waiting for a long time. A very long time. He declined.

Movie Night

Morgan looked over at Reid as they left the movie theater. “Hey,” Morgan said, “you want to go get some coffee?”
Reid gave him an incredulous look. “It’s me you’re asking. Of course I want to get some coffee.”
Morgan laughed as they headed over to the nearest coffee shop. He shook his head in exasperation as Reid ordered the biggest, most sugar-laden, syrupy thing on the menu. “You gonna be able to sleep tonight after drinking that, kid?”
“Sugar and caffeine are the staples of my diet. They don’t interfere with my sleeping patterns at all.” Reid then ordered a pastry too.
“Yeah, keep telling yourself that,” Morgan muttered. “You better be ready to go tomorrow morning or Hotch will have your ass.”
Reid just smirked at him. Morgan looked at him with bemusement and then ordered a small coffee, no pastry, thank you
They found a table in the corner. “So how did you like the film?” Morgan asked.
“Better than I expected,” Reid replied. “Of course, it’s definitely an alternative reality to the actual Sherlock Holmes stories, but it was enjoyable.”
“Enjoyable? Holmes was kick-ass.”
“He can be like that in the books, too, you know. He was a pugilist, after all, as well as an expert in stick fighting and martial arts.”
“I know, Reid. I’ve read the stories. I have to admit, though, that I’m surprised you agreed to come with me, seeing as this is a bit of an action movie.”
Reid took a big sip of his sugary caffeinated coffee concoction. “Of course I’d be interested. Holmes was the first profiler, after all.”

Sherlock Holmes Drabble for
sherlock2040
Feb. 4th, 2010 12:03 amDrabble (exactly 100 words) for my Drabble Meme (still taking requests, btw).
Written for
sherlock2040 who requested Sherlock Holmes/John Watson - prompt: 'penguin', 'marshmallow' and 'sheep'
----
“Of course, the penguin gave him away.”
“Now I know you’re making this up, Holmes. There is no way there was a penguin in the sheep field.”
“Watson, have some faith. The penguin had escaped and run wild.”
“Don’t you mean waddled wild? Really Holmes.”
“Why would I fabricate my tale?”
“To make me crazed?”
“If that was my goal, Watson, I would do that thing with my tongue.”
“Promises, promises. You—mmmm. Oh yes, do that thing with your tongue again.”
“Watson.”
“Yes.”
“You taste like marshmallow.”
“Good. Come here and have desert.”
“What a splendid idea, dear fellow.”

Fandom: Sherlock Holmes

Pairing: Holmes and Watson (or even Holmes/Watson)

Summary: Watson finds himself on an early morning train on his birthday.
Author’s Note: Written for the wonderful
janeturenne for her birthday. Hope you have a fabulous day!
Morning Train
By Daylyn
Watson found himself being shaken awake abruptly. His eyes flew open and Holmes was standing beside his bed. "Hurry up, Watson," Holmes exclaimed. "We must make the early morning train."
Watson groaned. "Why?"
"No time for unnecessary chatter, my dear fellow. We must be away at once. Pack a bag."
Watson was up and moving before he even realized what he was doing. "The things I do for you," he grumbled to himself.
"Hurry Watson," Holmes cried as he rushed from the room.
Watson washed his face and prepared to face the day.
A half hour later he found himself on train, heading out of London, with no clue as to where he was going or why.
"Do you want to share some details about this case, Holmes?" he groused. "Or shall I just remain in the dark as usual."
"Oh, there is no case, my dear Watson."

Fic: Addiction
Nov. 11th, 2009 02:06 amTitle: Addiction
Author: Daylyn
Fandom: Criminal Minds
Rating: PG-13 (FRT) for mentions of drug use and one swear word
Pairing: Hotch/Reid pre-slash
Disclaimer: All characters belong to their copyright holders. No profit is intended.
Summary: Reid watches Hotch struggle
Author’s Note: I have recently become obsessed with the show “Criminal Minds”. Maybe it comes from my love of Sherlock Holmes, and the team of FBI profilers on the show reminds me of a whole group of Holmes’ running around and trying to save the world. I’m not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing, but it definitely made me fall in love with the series. This is my first foray into the world of CM fanfic. Enjoy.
Addiction
By Daylyn
Spencer Reid knows that addiction comes in many forms.
His own personal demon, dilaudid, has rendered him, at various times, shaking with want and need and fear and obsession. It has left him terrified of narcotics, terrified of that sweet release and oblivion.
Terrified because he craved it so badly.
Perhaps it is his eidetic memory. Perhaps it is ingrained physical sensory perceptions. But Reid knows that he will never forget the feeling of the fast-moving, cold vibrations as the drug made its way though his body within mere seconds of injection, the frigid buzz that brought relief from pain, and fear, and horror. Mostly he will never forget how diluadid allowed Spencer Reid to escape from the mind of Spencer Reid, if only for a little while.

Fic: The Unbeatable Pair
Sep. 20th, 2009 06:44 pmTitle: The Unbeatable Pair
Author: Daylyn
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes
Pairing: Holmes/Watson (implied pre-slash (if you squint))
Warning: Some angst, some arguing
Rating: PG
Word Count: 2,223
Disclaimer: Not mine, although actually in the public domain. No profit is intended.
Summary: Soon after Holmes’ return, an escaped criminal comes looking for Watson.
Author’s Note: Written for the
watsons_woes Challenge 006. Written rather hurriedly, but I had the idea and I wanted to ensure that I posted it in time for the challenge. I realized that I haven’t actually written any fic in about three months. Damn you RL and feelings of being overwhelmed. However, while doing this I remembered how much I love writing this pairing, so maybe I’ll get my ass back in gear and write some more.
The Unbeatable Pair
By Daylyn
It had been a little over a week since Sherlock Holmes’ miraculous “return” and I was, to be honest, still reeling from the implications. To discover that Holmes was not, in fact, dead was a thing of wonder. To discover that he had not trusted me, however, was a cause of bitter hurt. I must admit that these two conflicting emotions were dueling within me, causing me no end of confusion.
I was avoiding Holmes. I knew that. I also knew that if he took one look at me, he would know it too.
My last patient had just left for the day. I poured myself a brandy and tried to decide what I should do.
The decision was taken away from me by a loud knocking at my door. I was quite surprised when the maid admitted both Holmes and Inspector Lestrade.
“Gentlemen,” said I, rising. “To what do I owe this—”
“Thank goodness you’re here, Doctor,” Lestrade exclaimed.
“Why wouldn’t I be? What’s going on?” I demanded.
“It seems that the police have misplaced a prisoner,” Holmes said bitingly. “Lestrade insisted that you be brought in on the investigation, although I informed him that you were obviously quite busy as you had not been around since I’ve been back.”
Before I could even formulate a reply, Lestrade said, “It’s Pennington from the Molesey Mystery, Doctor. He’s escaped.”
I sat down heavily. “I see.”
“Lestrade, I am perfectly able to assist you with this blunder without the good Doctor’s help,” Sherlock Holmes said. “There was no reason to bother him.”
Although my mind was a whirl of confusion, I realized that Holmes was peeved with my absence this past week. I did not know whether I should laugh, cry, or punch him. All options seemed viable.
“I did not come to you for your assistance, Mr. Holmes,” Lestrade explained. “I came to you because I thought Dr. Watson might be there. You see, Pennington is coming after him.”

Fic: Echoes of the Past
Jun. 28th, 2009 02:52 pmTitle: Echoes of the Past
Author: Daylyn
Fandom: Sherlock Holmes (in the 22nd Century)
Pairing: Holmes/Watson (from the past)
Rating: PG

Summary: The 22nd century had more changes than Holmes realized, including allowing men to marry each other. Holmes’ memories stray to the past and his relationship with Watson.
( Author’s Note: )
Echoes of the Past
By Daylyn
We were running after Martin Fenwick, Professor Moriarty’s 22nd century henchman, chasing him through a hotel lobby. Inspector Beth Lestrade of New Scotland Yard was shooting at him with her vaporizer, yelling out her ineffective order to stop. I had not decided if her great-great-great – however far removed he was – ancestor would be proud or appalled by her behavior. People were diving to the floor in order to avoid the blasts. I was always a bit astonished at the low casualty rate that we incurred, especially since we were far from cautious in our chase.
Watson, robot Watson that is, was bringing up the rear, scanning for any additional Moriarty accomplices. I saw Fenwick quickly dart into one of the grand ballrooms.
“That way,” I cried and ran toward the room. Lestrade and Watson were close behind.
We burst into the room and found ourselves in the midst of a wedding ceremony. The guests scattered as they saw Lestrade’s weapon.
“Where is he?” she demanded. The guests looked bewildered.
I checked the door, and then noticed a slight passageway off to the right. There was another door which led back into the lobby. Fenwick had obviously given us the slip. Again.
Beth Lestrade looked at the hallway. “Damn!” she cried.
I quite agreed with her.
The wedding guests were looking at us curiously. I smiled in my most charming manner and turned toward them. “Our sincere apologies,” I said soothingly. I looked toward the front of the room. “Best wishes on your nuptials.”
It was then that I observed the happy couple more closely and I realized that the vows that were about to be exchanged were between two men.
I felt my knees go weak.
