Oh. My. God.

Look at what's being offered this February through the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) Extension Program:

Sherlock Holmes and His World: A One-Day Seminar

It's taught by Leslie Klinger, author of The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes books.

This is basically in my own backyard. *squeals in glee* You know, sometimes I despair of living in Los Angeles and then something like this happens.

Why yes, I am enrolling. Why do you ask?

I wonder if he'll discuss Holmes/Watson slash.

Aww, I'm happy for you, and a little bit envious. Of course you enrolled, no question here, I'd have done so, too.

Wishing you (in fact, everyone) a happy and continuously exciting Thanksgiving!

*hugs and love*

Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes. *drooling in anticipation of my mom's wonderful turkey dinner*

Oh yes, I enrolled. I saw that last night (I just received their catalogue), squealed (and scared the cat), and had to share my good fortune. Mom thinks I'm nuts, but that's okay.

*bounces in anticipation*

*realizes that I'm close to three months away*

*settles down for a long wait*

Lots of hugs!

Oooh, that sounds fun!

*jealous*

I doubt H&W will come up, unless it's to be shat upon. I am gearing myself up for hate mail if I ever get my article on Doyle & homosexuality into the Sherlock Holmes Journal!

Woo hoo! I am very excited. Who knew that there would be something fun to do regarding Sherlock Holmes in Los Angeles of all places.

I too doubt that H/W will come up. I know that Klinger mentions some of the theories in his book's introduction, and I seem to recall that he wasn't really derisive about it. But I still doubt it will be discussed.

However, I'm still really excited. And I'm sure it will give me lots more info for H/W fics.

*patiently waiting for February*

I'd be happy to discuss "H/W" during the seminar: I assume that you mean the question of whether they were more than just flatmates.

I look forward to meeting you!

Wow. I sometimes forget just how open the Internet really is and how anyone, really, can read anything that you post. It’s always interesting when my online fannish hobbies combine with my real life existence. That said, I am also very excited to be taking your seminar.

I “rediscovered” the Sherlock Holmes stories earlier this year (I had first read them when I was a teenager), and I absolutely love them. One of the things that really intrigues me is the interaction between Holmes and Watson (whatever their relationship). While the stories are often Watson’s tribute to Holmes’ intellect, there is also a very tangible friendship that last decades and overlays all of the tales.

At the risk of sounding like a bit of a geeky fan, I recently purchased your New Annotated Sherlock Holmes books and wanted to say that they are great. I’ve read your very informative introduction and have looked through some of the stories. The information provided is just wonderful. While I doubt that I’ll bring them to the UCLA seminar (they’re not exactly light), I just wanted to say that I really enjoy them and all the work that you did.

I look very forward to being in your seminar in February.

Thank you,
Michelle
