I know it's a bit late, but my new dog, Rio, (a German shepherd rescue) just celebrated his first Halloween with us.

While carousing the neighborhood, he found what he wanted:

I'm not really sure if this was a trick or a treat.

Yeah, he's a bad doggy.

Yeah, he is cute (and bad... and cute... and bad... it's a never-ending cycle).

My mom insisted we get a new dog, which was a good/terrible idea. Rio (that's the name he came with) is about a year and a half, has abandonment issues (he had been dumped in a shelter), is very sweet, and is basically young and foolish.

He's also making himself quite at home.

*hugs*

He sounds lovely and you two will give him such a great home and never abandon him. :)

I know. The poor, disappointed dog. It wasn't quite what he was expecting.

Thank you. Yes, he is quite handsome. I had a 10 year old shepherd/malamute mix who died a few months ago (he was the love of my life and I was devestated when it happened). This one -- well, he's young and foolish, but he helps to fill that void. And he is a sweet, cute, and bad boy.

Huh. The skeleton guy actually looks as if he doesn't have fun. XD

Rio looks all concentrated and so, I believe it's a progress. Of some sort. Erm.

Did he rip it off? (You know my highly suppressed dark fantasies about dogs running around carrying plastic bones? Which would be only topped by neighbours following him with a broomstick...)

Oh, Rio can always concentrate on being bad...

Although your broomstick-weilding neighbor scenario is amusing, alas (or fortunately) it did not happen. My father supposedly managed to pull Rio away before he was able to do too much damage.

The picture only came about because my aunt was walking with them and had her camera. She had just snapped a photo of the skeleton, and then Rio decided to check it out. She literally pressed the shutter (by luck) at exactly the right time.

That's what I'd call a lucky shot.

That's an absolutely priceless picture. XD He looks ever so slightly confused, and yet irrepressibly optimistic still...

My mom insisted we get a new dog, which was a good/terrible idea.

I admit, I've not yet lost a pet (due to still being on my first one, if you don't count the quiet demise years ago of Mika [a.k.a. Mr. Creosote], my sister's fat hamster), but...I can completely see what you mean by this.

May he bring you much joy (as he certainly seems to be doing!), and all the best for a long and happy life together. He's gorgeous, and sounds like a lovely companion. :-)

I think that describes it perfectly. I mean, it didn't really smell like a bone, but it looked like a bone, so he had to try...

Losing a pet (especially one as wonderful as my Gus dog was) is very hard. Pets bring such joy to your life, and losing them is like losing a part of the family.

But yes, Rio dog is bring much joy and happiness. He's a sweetie, and we're all settling down into our happy routine.

Thanks!

Oh, and my icon is of my cat Ernest and the love his life -- Mousie!
